Horace Whinfield, a private, in the 60th Battalion, 15th Brigade, Australian Imperial Force, fought in the battle of Polygon Wood in September 1917. He was an infantryman and at the end of battle, he helped injured mates back to the Medical Aid Posts. He then became a stretcher bearer for the remainder of the war.

The photographs show Polygon Wood as it was in 2015 and from the plaques at the site, how it was in that month of 1917 – complete destruction.
